15 LAKH PEOPLE LOST LIVES IN ROAD ACCIDENT IN PAST 10 YEARS
In the past decade , around 15.3 lakh people lost their lives in road accidents. The data that has been brought up by central government is a toll greater than the population of Chandigarh and nearly equivalent to the city of Bhubaneswar and the road death rate in India is approximately 250 deaths per 10,000 km of road. Road safety is always been a multi- sectoral issue that requires enhanced collaboration among various government agencies.

MAJOR FACTORS
According to the study, steps taken to check for speeding can save 20,554 lives annually. It shows the four main risk factors including drunk driving, speeding, not wearing a seatbelt or a crash helmet. An estimated 3,47,258 lives could be saved annually through the use of electronic speed control and changes to infrastructure. Radar and speed detection camera systems have proven successful, and can be installed.
