The Dogecoin community is in mourning after Kabosu, the Shiba Inu who inspired the iconic Doge meme, passed away. Kabosu's owner, Atsuko Sato, announced the news on her blog, stating that Kabosu "quietly passed away as if asleep."
Kabosu, also known as Kabochan, became an internet sensation with her image symbolizing the fun and lightheartedness of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency world. Following her death, the Dogecoin community, led by the Dogecoin Foundation and official Dogecoin social media channels, paid their respects to the beloved dog. Even Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin expressed his condolences.
However, amidst the outpouring of grief, scammers are attempting to exploit the community's emotions. The Dogecoin Foundation's Timothy Stebbing has identified a fake Dogecoin social media account promoting a phony NFT collection launch in Kabosu's honor. Stebbing urges Dogecoin users to be vigilant and verify the authenticity of any social media accounts or fundraising initiatives claiming to be associated with Kabosu. The community should also report such accounts to prevent these malicious actors from profiting from a somber moment.
