SUNSPOTS
A close relationship exists between solar sunspots and the corona of the Sun. It has been observed that , during the period of low sunspot activity, fine streamers of the corona are visible for longer above the equator than they are visible over the Sun's polar regions. Sunspots are black, irregularly shaped patches on the Sun's surface with widths that can exceed tens of thousands of kilometres in length.
