Reunited with Joaquin Phoenix is Arthur Fleck, the mentally ill man who becomes the legendary villain Joker.

As fellow asylum inmate Harley Quinn, who develops a terrible obsession with the Joker, Lady Gaga joins the ensemble.

Reunited with her character from the first film, Sophie Dumond, is Zazie Beetz.

Though their roles are currently unknown, a number of additional actors are also involved. Brendan Gleeson, Ken Leung, Steve Coogan, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey are a few of these. Also returning are Leigh Gill and Sharon Washington as Gary and Arthur's social workers, respectively, from the first film.

Development

Even though Joker (2019) was only supposed to be a one-shot, negotiations about a sequel with star Joaquin Phoenix and director Todd Phillips began after the film's popularity. Although there were conflicting reports at first, in June 2022, "Joker, Folie à Deux" was the official title of the sequel. While keeping the impending Batman movie apart, this darker interpretation of DC Comics characters will reside outside of the regular DC movie universe and explore the idea of returning to this world.

Casting

News of the Joker sequel began to circulate soon after it was revealed. It was then reported that Lady Gaga was playing Harley Quinn, and the movie would also feature a musical number! In addition to Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Jacob Lofland in unidentified parts, Zazie Beetz made a comeback as Sophie. Harry Lawtey even had a significant role.

Filming

December 2022 saw the start of filming Joker, Folie à Deux, with sequences being filmed in New York and Los Angeles. Even a crowd scene that Lady Gaga captured made waves! Filming for the film concluded in April 2023, with certain scenes shot using special IMAX cameras as they reconstructed Arkham Asylum in New Jersey.

Post-production

Joker, Folie à Deux is receiving a major budget! James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, even saw some filmed portions and provided commentary in late 2023. With a massive $200 million budget, which is triple the amount of the first movie, this sequel is undoubtedly going all out.

Music and release

Ahead of you is some musical mayhem! The soundtrack for the Joker sequel, "Folie à Deux," will be composed by Hildur Guðnadóttir, who also wrote the music for the original movie. Aim for about fifteen musical numbers, mainly well-known songs with a twist and possibly a couple of unique compositions included into Guðnadóttir's score.
