Overview of the Indus Valley Civilization and Vedic Era

HISTORY

The oldest civilization of India is Indus Valley Civilization. It is divided into three sub parts 

Early period- 3300 BC to 2600 BC.

Mature period- 2600 BC to 1900 BC.

Later period- 1900 BC to 1300 BC.

According to ASI (Archaelogical Survey Of India) in IVC there were more than 1000 sites and the excavation is still continued. Rakhigarhi is the biggest and Allahdino is the smallest site in IVC. Some sites that were located in India were Kalibangan, Dholavira, Rakhigarhi, Ropar and Lothal. IVC was also known as urban civilization because of its town planning.

SOURCES OF HISTORY 

1. Material Remains - Fossils of plants, animals and humans.

2. Inscriptions - Written anything on hard material.

3. Coins - We used to get many information through coins.

4. Literary Sources - Knowledge through books.

5. Village Study - Study on villages like Haryana, Gujrat etc.

6. Foreign Accounts - foreign accounts that were maintained at that time.

7. National Sciences - Research by technologies.

VEDIC ERA

The time of Vedic era was 1500 BC to 500 BC. Nomads came from Central Asia part and settled to Northern west side. Europeans called them as Aryans. They were divided into two categories - DASYO as ( Dark Complexion) and ARYANS as ( White Complexion). Four famous books studied in Vedic Era were;

1. RIG VEDA 

2. SAM VEDA

3. YAJUR VEDA

4. ATHARVA VEDA
