WHAT IS THE 4B MOVEMENT?
The 4B movement originally developed in South Korea feminists circles and on social media in the mid-to-late 2010s during a wave of violence against women in the country, and in protest over other manifestations of sexism and inequality in South Korean society. The movement calls for:
1.Bihon, which means no heterosexual marriage.
2.Bichulson, no childbirth.
3.Biyeonae, no dating
4.Bisekseu, no heterosexual sexual relationship.

GENDER INEQUALITY
Due to various methods of calculating and measuring gender inequality, South Korea's gender inequality ranking vary across different reports. While the 2017 UNDP Gender Inequality Index ranks South Korea 10th out of 160 countries. Indices like the Social Institutions and General Index (SIGI), focus on the origins of gender inequalities, such as laws and norms. South Korea is one of three OECD countries that did not receive a perfect SIGI score.
WHY THIS MOVEMENT EMERGE IN SOUTH KOREA
Women are fed up with the scale of male violence in South Korean society. A report published in 2018 showed that in the previous, atleast 824 women in South Korea had been killed and a further 602 were put at risk of death by violence at the hands of their intimate partners.
